Baltimore, MD asked in Immigration Law for Virginia

Q: Green card related question

My family won green card 2 years ago at that time we all got visas except my dad because he had previous conviction ( he never been in prison he just needed to pay fine) . At the embassy they said we have to apply for petition for my dad from America. We did that and my dad finally got visa. He came for 2 months then he had to leave US because he had some issues with his business back in his country. He was not allowed to leave his country untill court is over , so it took him 1year and 1month, then when court was finally over he went to embassy with DS-117 form. At the embassy they said we have to do petition from America because he got visa approval from America at the first time. They said his family members have to do petition to get him permission to come back. Now we do no know what kind of petition we have to apply for , because he has green card and all documents . Lawyer that I went to did not know either what to do in this case. Thanks for your help in advance.
