Mattoon, IL asked in Family Law and Child Custody for Kentucky

Q: Wanting coustody

I live in Illinois, my cousins baby was taken away at birth he was showing signs of withdrawing of drugs. Since my cousin and his gf haven’t showed any signs of cleaning up, they have agreed that I can take the baby they want me to have him. What would my next steps be? Can I simply file for custody with the court? Or do I have to go through the SW?

A: If you can get cousin and gf to sign an agreed order giving you custody, you can file a custody petition, agreed order and other necessary documents all at once and likely get it signed without ever having to go to court.
