Orange, TX asked in Personal Injury and Entertainment / Sports for Texas

Q: Question about dealing with dishonest practices by a Austin based company, Megolamedia. Want to know if I have a case.

I was on this season’s Skin Tight Show. Due to complications, my second surgeries were postponed. My surgeon called me at 3:00 Friday afternoon. They had gotten a call from TLC’s Megolamedia saying that they are not paying for my second surgeries, & they cancelled my surgery at the hospital that was scheduled for Monday. My doctor was livid, & very supportive of me.

I had expressed concern when they were pushing me to do my reveal much before I was ready, with all sorts of promises that my next round would be a breeze without them hovering about. They promised the second round of surgeries would take place with no problems. My surgery date was set since May 15th with their knowledge. I was afraid that once they had the reveal out of me, there was nothing to hold them to their promises. Even mentioned it to my contact. Nothing in the contract about this. All verbal and a couple texts. Do I have a case &what type of attorney would I contact?

A: Without more information (including seeing the agreement), it's difficult to determine whether or not you have a case. However, it generally sounds like you may need an attorney who can handle breach-of-contract cases, or potentially an attorney who can handle claims under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
