Q: Employment aid option for unpaid wages.

I start working for my company in June 2016 as a part-time employee. This year January I joined them as a full-time employee and relocated to Nashville from California. Since my joining, I have not received the agreed upon salary. First, I was told by CEO they are having financial issues and will be over in a couple of months. After that, I was told the client I am working has stopped the payment. Last week I talk to the client and they told they have cleared all cheques on time and have no pending payments to my company.

I have again asked about it and they agree that they have received the payment but still having financial issues and they are arranging and I will be paid in after 3 months IF finances are arranged. My understanding now is they are just buying time and stinging me along for the project. I want to take legal actions again them and I need to know what my legal options are.

A: Generally speaking, Tennessee is an Employment-at-Will State, and an employer can terminate or demote you for no reason whatsoever as long as it is not illegal and/or outside of contract with you. If you seriously believe that one of these things has happened, then you should consult with local counsel immediately.
