Silver Spring, MD asked in Traffic Tickets for Maryland

Q: What could I say to the judge to minimize a speeding ticket (86 in 55) and/or possibly get probation?

I am a 24-yr-old (working and going to college) and got my first ticket. It's for Exceeding speed limit/86 in a 55 on I-270 a mile past the speed limit drop from 65. There were several police cars further down the road with other drivers pulled over. I've made this trip many times, but this time I was tired, it was getting dark and I just followed the traffic. Very stupid mistake! I plan to request a trial. If needed, what could I say to the judge to minimize the ticket or possibly get probation? Thanks for your advice.

A: It’s best to request a trial, and not a waiver hearing. Bring your MVA driving record. You can get it online or go to any MVA Office. The speed over is a 5 point offense. Yushoukd request a PBJ (no points, no conviction) and offer to complete the Driver Improvement Program, or do that in advance of court. Approved DIP providers are on the MVA site.
