Birmingham, AL asked in Divorce, Family Law, Child Custody and Child Support for Alabama

Q: My husband has somewhat recently started bullying and threatening to keep my son from me what can I do to make this stop

We have been separated but not legally for just over 2 yrs. and until the past few months haven’t had an issue with where our son would go and when. However, over the past several months my husband has been threatening me with trying to get full custody if I didn’t agree to his rules about our son-basically I see it as he is doing all he can to keep me away from our son. Due to the fact that I have no money and am actually currently unemployed, I can’t do anything legally about it b/c I can’t afford a lawyer. He refuses to give me any financial assistance and says he will never pay child support as well-even tho I’m on the brink of being evicted. I just need some advice on what and how to do it, please.

A: If you can't do anything legally, you can't do anything. If you can't hire a lawyer, try to get help from a free legal clinic. You and he have the same rights to the child, but you have to get into Court with a divorce to make any court enforceable rules.
