Silver Spring, MD asked in Animal / Dog Law for Maryland

Q: My ex boyfriend paid for my dog, we broke up and he's taking me to civil court. Will he win the case?

My ex boyfriend paid for my dog. At the moment of purchase all the documents were done under my name since she was supposed to be a gift. Everything is under my name from proof of owner to Montgomery County registration and health insurance. She has always lived with me, he has probably been seeing her a couple of hours a monty.

After we broke up, he went to court to said that he wanted his property back since he paid for her.

He can actually win the case and have her taken away from me?.

A: A gift is a gift. If you can prove the gift, and by your facts and evidence cited in your question it appears you should be able to, then his suit will fail. If you want to reduce the risk of losing your beloved pet, I suggest you retain counsel to defend this suit.
