Orlando, FL asked in Criminal Law for Florida

Q: Is there a way for a client to give permission to his attorney to discuss the details of his case with a third party?

If the only way to give this permission is by granting said third-party power of attorney, could doing so potentially cause an issue in the future if the client is found guilty of his charges and wants to appeal this verdict

A: The client doesn't need to give a witness a power of attorney in order for the attorney to speak with the witness. I can't imagine how a POA would be useful; you have perhaps misunderstood.

A: You can always give permission for your lawyer to discuss the case with a third party; however, discussing client confidences could breach the attorney-client privilege.
