Tuxedo Park, NY asked in Landlord - Tenant for New York

Q: Is it legal that landlord doesn’t give me proper room?

Hello, I moved here in the end of July. I was going to use a room which landlord showed me when I first get contact with him. But because other tenant still occupies the room, I could not use the room even though landlord told me the tenant would leave the house in a week after I moved here. So I didn’t have my room, put all of my things in a living room and slept on a couch until today. I feel really uncomfortable since I didn’t have privacy. Just today, he said me that I can use a room that is next his room. However, that’s also different room that I was going to use and I don’t want to use the room becauselandlord have to go through the room to get to his room due to a matter of location of two rooms. Also some of his stuff are in the room, so I still don’t have a private room since landlord can come in my room anytime. I’m really annoyed about him. Is this legal and what if I move other place? Do I have to pay money for the rest of lease?
