Q: I have a dog that me and an ex boyfriend got he currently has her, and won't give her back or let me see her.
He gave me money to adopt the dog my ID is on file for the dog, i just want to be able to share custody.
A: There are no custody rights to dogs. Either you own the dog or your ex boyfriend does. You state he gave you the money to adopt the dog. Was the money a gift? If so and the paperwork as you claim has your name on it, the dog is yours and you can get it back through a small claims action. If he loaned you the money, you can still get the dog back but you would need to make payments under whatever agreement you had when borrowing the money to get the dog.
