Orlando, FL asked in Animal / Dog Law for Florida

Q: My neighbors have 6 dogs. They are little dogs but...

I have 2 young children with a 3rd on the way. These dogs are aggressive and have been known to bite. They have a fenced in back yard and let the dogs out of the front yard. Every time you drive down the road, you have to slam on your breaks to stop from hitting them. They have now began coming into my yard and chasing my kids. I am not ok with this. Animal control was no help. They basically told me to spend the $5000 to put up a fence around my yard to stop THEIR dogs from coming in. I simply just dont have that much money to put up a fence with a baby on the way nor do I feel I should have to when they have a fenced in yard for their animals. What can I do to keep these dogs out of my yard so my children feel safe because as of now, my kids are constantly on the listen out for these dogs to be let out.

A: If you don't want to spend the money, for either a fence or an attorney, and if animal control won't help, the only remaining option is to not let your children out of the house unaccompanied.

If I were you I would advise the neighbors that, if they continue to let the dogs into the front yard, I wouldn't be so careful to hit the brakes in the future.
