Brooklyn, NY asked in Family Law and Child Support for Puerto Rico

Q: Where can I find proof that grandma received child support for son (1940's PR)? She said she never got it, but ex paid

I'm trying to fill in the blanks over here. After 20 years of searching, I finally found my father's half-sister. The story my grandmother told me was that she never got child support from the father of her child and he had friends in the court system so that she wouldn't get the money. My aunt told me that her dad went to jail for a year. Her grand-parents paid, then he paid when he was out. I have a feeling that either my grandmother lied or someone else in the family or the court itself took the money and never gave it to her. How can I find records on the financial transactions during that time. I have names of parties involved. Can this information be found online? Just curious. My father is going to be 85 and still holds a lot of resentment towards his dad because of this and I feel that maybe this question may have an answer.

A: Hello and thank you for using JUSTIA. I am afraid that the records you are searching for no longer exist. Our current system began in 1950 with the creation of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the signing of our Constitution. The records that you are searching for are from a lower court known as the Superior Court.

As for the internet, There is a website that is a search engine for finding information about judicial cases. This can be found at the following link; https://www.ramajudicial.pr/consultas/casos.html

You Just type in the name of the person whom you are searching for and all court dockets with said name will appear. Press the docket you want and the cases basic information appears. In your particular case you will most likely need to search both your grandfather's and grandmother's names. Once you find said Court docket write down the case number and contact the Court Archives Office at 787-274-0016 or at their e-mail; programa.documento@ramajudicial.pr

They will be able to inform you if said case docket is available or has been destroyed.

Good Luck...
