Austin, TX asked in Family Law and Child Custody for Texas

Q: My son's adopted mother told me to "figure out" how to get a custody agreement drawn up to release him to me.

He is not enrolled in high school and wants to move here to start fresh but she won't authorize him to move without a legal agreement to sign. She said she will sign it immediately. What form do I fill out to send to her? Can signatures be motorized at two separate times?

A: You need to change the order and that can be done with an attorney's assistance. A document with the judge's approval is the best way to handle this situation. Any changes just done without a judge's signature may not hold up if there are disputes later. Good luck.
