Pikeville, KY asked in Adoption, Child Custody and Family Law for Kentucky

Q: If my uncle and his wife decide to sign custody of their child over to me what paper work and steps need to be taken?

Social services stepped in and took the child. My uncle and the child's mother have reached out to me wanting me and my husband to take the child. So would this be as simple as printing off the custody form off line and all parties signing the paper to turn their rights over to me and having a judge sign off on it. If all partied agree is that all we need to do? Also, would it pose a problem if the uncle child and child's mother lived in a different county than I do?

A: Best course would be to file a custody sction against them and then everyone enter an agreed order awarding you custody.
