Q: Any advice on a pending i485 petition through marriage to a US citizen with financial abuse from spouse?

Been married 8 months and he petitioned for me for my green card but we moved to another place because he got a new job, and right after we moved he told me I needed to give him twice as much more money as before if I wanted to continue living with him. It came as a surprise to me because I have been contributing with the bills and now suddenly he gets a place without consulting me the price and is obligating me to pay a lot more without even having a new job. We moved because of him, he got a job out of state. Also we have a credit card in common, that I got because he encouraged me and he over uses it, spending a lot of money in things that are not even shared and he makes me accountable of those expenses, he doesn’t really pay and he expects me to pay, leaving me with debts in the thousands of dollars. I don’t know what to do, I don’t have my green card yet but I’m struggling financially because of him.

A: Your best bet is to discuss all these concerns with a marriage counsellor or a divorce lawyer.
