Asked in Land Use & Zoning for Ohio

Q: Is there any way that my neighbor can be held responsible for his sump pump draining in my yard causing it to flood?

His sump pump is pushing water from his property onto my property and is causing flooding by the entry way to my backyard. This is also causing an inconvenience when i go out to cut my grass, causing my lawn mower to get stuck in the mud. He is aware of the issue and stated over a year ago that he was going to have the problem fixed, but he has not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A: Yes, there is a way -- he can be held responsible by suing him. He is causing damage to your property. Use the Find a Lawyer tab to retain a local real estate attorney who can review the facts and advise you of your options, and communicate with the neighbor on your behalf that any further delay in correcting the problem will result in legal action. Although that is likely to make being neighbors more difficult.
