Las Vegas, NV asked in Child Support for Puerto Rico

Q: I live in Nevada and my kids with there mom in PR. How does Asume calculate payments?

Do they take into consideration my monthly cost of living? It’s way more expensive here then in PR. How would this get calculated? Thanks in advance.

A: Hello and thank you for using JUSTIA. Yes your living expenses are taken into consideration although the only credits you will receive are for additional dependant children, taxes and any other benefits for the children in this case.

Child support is calculated by combining the income of both parents and finding said number in the table for child support. Your income will be divided by the combined income sum and this will determine what percentage of the combined income you will pay in child support. You can access the table at

Find the combined income and then look under the number of children and thier ages. To the right of the combined income sum will be the amounts of total child support for each age. Multiply said number by the percentage that you will respond for and the result is the basic child support you will pay for said child. Each child receives a certain amount as per the table, age and number of children. There is a supplemental child support which is for covering housing, educational or special medical expenses in addition to the basic child support. This is calculated fromthe total costs of said expences divided by your percentage. The outcome is what you will pay in addition to the basic child support.

Please do not attempt to settle this case without legal help since the outcome can be very damaging to your income and possibly result in an arrest warrent for not being able to pay. My best advise is to obtain the servicies of an Attorney for this purpose. The legal cost will be worth it.
