Detroit, MI asked in Traffic Tickets and Car Accidents for Ohio

Q: I was at fault but I know it wasn't my fault. How can I get them to pay for my damages?

I was in a no injury , car accident yesterday. I was cited and considered at fault. They said I ran a red light. Which I did not I even said the light was yellow as I was moving through an intersection. A truck in the left turn lane hit me as I was going straight. My car is most likely a total loss while their truck has minimal damage.

A: I'm glad you were not injured. But from the standpoint of liability, the citation and your statement that the light was yellow place you in a difficult position. If it's possible to retrieve video imagery of the accident that might support your position, that's a possibility to explore. But four weeks post-accident, it could be difficult, as many devices retain data for a limited period of time, or they record over data. Keep in mind that there's a possibility such video evidence, even if retrievable, could further reinforce the case against you. You could consult with an attorney in Ohio to discuss if they are able to identify anything in the police report (if you've obtained it by now) that might help your position. Good luck.
