Los Angeles, CA asked in Personal Injury for California

Q: Do I have any legal recourse in privacy issue with film maker sister?

My younger sister has finished making an autobiographical, full length feature film about her growing up adopted in our so called "abusive" family. In her movie, she reveals both personal and embarrassing information about myself as well as depicting me as one of her "abusers" Do I have any legal recourse to either compel her to remove the offending information or to prevent her from marketing/distributing the film?Is this kind of remedy, one which limits or curtails her activity, even an option available to me?

A: more info needed.

it sounds like you need to write out all the info in detail and set up an appointment with a civil lit attorney.

it is probably the kind of case that a lawyer would only take on an hourly and not a contingency.

you can always sue anyone, the question is can you collect.

it is the kind of case that insurance would probably not reimburse you so does she have assets......otherwise you may get a verdict but not be able to collect.

A: You should contact an attorney as the previous answer suggests... but I would also add that attorneys in the Los Angeles area would have experience in this arena that is very rare in most other places. Good luck to you.
