Cleveland, OH asked in Personal Injury for Ohio

Q: My family and I were stuck on an elevator for almost an hour with no way out. The engineers were not successful.

Long story short my children were screaming so my husband used all strength to open both doors from the inside; we were off level and had to jump down. My 6yr old daughter is still having nightmares about it and there was very little compassion. Do we have a case? This happened in Dearborn, Michigan

A: Unless the building owner knew there was an issue, generally no. I would suggest you contact a member of the Michigan Assn for Justice to check.

For PTS many clients have gotten modification of symptoms from a process called EMDR

To find a practitioner in your area Google : Psychology Today therapist EMDR ____________________ (name of your city or nearest town).

A: I'm sorry for your family's ordeal here. I agree with Mr. Munsing that the building owner's knowledge of the condition would be a key factor. And determining that could depend on the thoroughness of the building's elevator maintenance records. It's difficult to answer your question as to whether or not you have a case. As a first step, you could arrange a consult with an attorney to discuss the matter in further detail; most practitioners in this area offer free initial consults. Good luck
