A: “Public clearance” is not a term I recognize, but if you are referring to a government security clearance, the answer is not clear-cut. The pbj disposition and the charge description will show in a criminal background check, and although it is not a conviction or guilty finding, it remains viewable and may be considered along with any other information in evaluating an employee or candidate. A single dui is not sufficient to conclude someone is an alcoholic, but being an alcoholic is one issue that can cause denial of an application, so it may lead to more questions about alcohol use and any related issues. It is not generally a disqualification for employment as such an offense does not raise questions about honesty or character.
