Q: Legal advice about the University dorm policy

My daughter is a freshman at the local University, where she has been assigned a room with girl roommate on campus. Unfortunately, few weeks ago my daughter moved to the boy's apartment on campus and began living with class mates. As a concerned parent, I briefly discussed this situation with my daughter and approached the University housing administrator but I was told that nothing could be done being she was 18 and any interference might be considered as violence and threat. As per University housing policy, opposite sex is not allowed for extended stay in the dorm. My daughter has been suffering from some mental issues, she blindly trusts new people to the very extreme. Moreover, she is addicted to drinking alcohol being influenced now and currently she is approaching the sugar dad's network for collecting monthly allowance per her friend's advice. I am very much concerned and not sure if I could report this issue to the local police. Any guidance in this matter will be appreciated.

A: Unfortunately, because your daughter is 18, she is legally an adult. Therefore unless she is mentally incapacitated and in need of a guardian she can make any decisions she wants, regardless of right or wrong. What you can do is cut off financial support if she's making decisions you disagree with.

Good luck.
