Joshua, TX asked in Family Law for Texas

Q: My girlfriend's parents want to put a restraining order on me because she doesn't want to stop talking to me.

I'm 21 and she's 19. Do they still have the authority to do so or is there a way we can fight it?

A: They have no authority over her to do so unless she had special needs where they may still have some rights to make decisions for your girlfriend. Good luck.

A: They don't have the legal right since she's an adult (again, unless there is a guardianship over her if she is mentally incompetent), but if she's living in their home, practically speaking they kinda can tell her the rules of the house.

Might want to ask yourself why don't they like you and talk to them about it and see if you can get them to like you.
