West Orange, NJ asked in Bankruptcy for New Jersey

Q: Should medical bills be listed as "consumer debts" on bankruptcy filing?

My bankruptcy lawyer has dropped the ball multiple times on my case that I absolutely have no faith in her handling my case. I'll leave the details leading up out, but the most recent issue is that she never submitted all of my creditors. Now that I am carefully reading the amendment, I am seeing that she checked that my debt is primarily "consumer debt". But my debt is almost entirely medical debt - does medical debt need to be checked under "consumer debts"? I wound up in a hospital with an emergency surgery during a gap of time where I did not have insurance and was waiting for open enrollment through my job. My hospital indemnity plan didn't cover anything, which left me with $130K in medical debt. It was involuntary.
