Q: Can my insurance company refuse to give me living expenses before they interrogate me ?
My home was burgularized while i am out of state and my insurer refuses to give me shelter or access to the. Reports to get a contractor to look at the damages. I am asked to complete and sign a pre printed inaccurate sworn affidavit ,send utility bills& travel itenerary. I am still out of town and do not have enough funds for to live on in order to assess the actual damages. My support consists of elderly family who can not assist in this matter. The insurer refuses to release the inspectors report so that i can contact contractors. Now the investigator claims he did not receive my documents and want me to submit to a interrogation.
A:
It looks like something in the investigation of your claim triggered suspicion on the part of your insurance carrier. It would be difficult for an attorney to make a meaningful assessment without investigating the loss and the carrier's handling of the claim in detail. It could be worthwhile to contact an Illinois attorney to review the affidavit, scope of the upcoming interrogation, and other elements of the carrier's file in detail. It's likely that an attorney would recommend their accompanying you to the interrogation. I hope the claim is ultimately resolved and your life is returned to normalcy after the stress of the burglary. Good luck
