I am currently under court supervision in Illinois and have recently received a ticket for failing to signal and having no insurance. What consequences might I face for this new violation while on court supervision, and what steps should I take to address this situation?

Court supervision is essentially a “get out of jail free” card for your prior offense—it’s dismissed if you stay clean for the full term (usually 90–360 days). But a new ticket like yours (failure to signal under 625 ILCS 5/11-804 and no insurance under 625 ILCS 5/3-707) counts as a... View More
I am 17 years old and received a reckless driving ticket during a car accident. While I was not cited as the at-fault driver, I was ticketed for speeding. There are no previous incidents or tickets on my record, and both cars involved are totaled, but there were no injuries. The other driver has... View More

At your age, the last thing you need is a conviction on your driving record. Depending on the circumstances, you would be well served by attempting to obtain court supervision - court supervision is a disposition in Illinois that allows you to plead guilty to an offense, but with no conviction to... I was in a car accident on 5/27/25, where the other driver's insurance accepted fault and paid for my vehicle and medical bills. They offered $2000 for my grade 1 whiplash injury, which seems insufficient given my need for ongoing care like MRI, CT scans, and physical therapy. My physician is... View More

Insurance companies don't work like that. If you were offered $2,000, that is also intended to cover your medical bills. You cannot take an ambulance for $2,000 or go to an ER, much less have an MRI and undergo PT. If you have private insurance, the insurance company has a subrogation... View More

I'm sorry about the loss of your father. You could contact the insurance carrier. But it's possible they would not share that information if you were not a beneficiary or contingent beneficiary. The insurance policy is a contractual matter. As for the inheritance-related issues you raise,... View More

The question does not describe when the policy which covered the vehicle on the date of accident was issued. Illinois law requires a policy holder to read/review the policy when it is issued to verify they have the insurance coverage they requested and if unsure, to contact their agent/broker to... You cannot have the title in your name alone unless you are 18. You were a minor when the car was purchased. It does not matter who paid for it. If your dad's name is on the title, he will want the car to be insured. You cannot take the car without your father's permission.
I was in a car accident and signed a law and injury form with State Farm. A couple of days later, State Farm totaled out my car. Given this situation, am I still able to sue?
answered on Mar 10, 2025
There is no such thing as a "Law and Injury Form," so it is difficult to answer. Your property damage claim is handled entirely separately from your personal injury claim. Before any insurance company will release any money to you for property damage or personal injury, you must... View More
I was involved in a minor collision early last year where my grill was chipped and my license plate bent. The police told me to "just go," and I didn't take a DUI test. Now, the other driver is suing my car insurance for injuries, but they don't want to settle for my policy cap... View More

They probably will not be able to prove you were under the influence but there’s nothing stopping them for making the claim although there should be some evidence to support it before they claim it is the case.
On your other thing, you probably received a letter from your insurance... View More

Let's get something clear. When you have an accident, you are either at fault or not at fault. Beyond that, for the purposes of calculating the value of the claim nothing else matters. You could be a nun, driving sisters to a convent or you could be a junkie, with an open bottle of... View More

You did the right thing by refusing to sign anything under a threat of prosecution. In Illinois, an employer cannot withhold a final paycheck or deduct alleged losses without your written authorization or a court order, and your wages are due on the next regular payday. In Illinois, if you choose to keep a car that an insurance company has declared a total loss and receive a reduced payout, you can retain the original title. This allows you to continue driving the car with standard liability insurance coverage. You are not required to apply for a salvage title... View More

Not necessarily. It will partly depend on whether the police officer and states attorney believe these people.
