Kennesaw, GA asked in Child Support and Immigration Law for Georgia

Q: Should I write a notarized letter for my ex stating he’s paid child support even though it’s been late and not in full?

My ex husband is trying to get citizenship for his wife but he’s stating he needs a notarized letter from me stating he’s paid since 2003. He’s court ordered to pay but it does not come out his checks. I wrote a letter stating he’s paid but it’s not always on time or for the full amount although he’s been consistent this year. He’s wanting me to rewrite it stating only that he’s paid since 2003. Should I do that or leave it the way it’s stated? I don’t want to have a legal situation later and he tries to say he’s always paid. Plus I fell he should just be able to use the divorce decree to show its court ordered. Thank you.

A: No, you should not write this letter, as it would be false.
