Q: signed a protective covenant and will be doing similar work at the new place. Should I be concerned about legal action?

at my current job, I was required to sign a protective covenant agreement that has a non-compete clause that is pretty broad, stating that I cannot engage in any business line that I've been working in over the last 24 months for a period of 12 months anywhere in the US as it's a national company.

Essentially, my employer is an intermediary that does work for clients by contracting a service out to independent agents (like Uber).

I was offered a job doing about the same thing but rather than being an intermediary, this position is built into the company as a department and only completes work for this particular company. Currently, they contract out their work to companies like my present company (never contracted work to my current company) but they are now creating a department to do this function internally. I will manage the new department, which is almost the same thing as my current role but at a higher level.

The new co doesn't compete for work with the old.

A: IMO, you should wait until everything new going on is completed, put into place and up and running before worrying about what might happen if you go elsewhere someday.
