A: I do not understand the facts as you've presented them, and there is little any lawyer can do for you without reviewing the lease, the licensing of the unit, the correspondence, and the rest of the oral facts. Further, it probably matters where the rental unit is located, but your message seems to be about a unit someplace in Maryland or in Brooklyn, NY. In any event, a $6,070 default judgment against you will be a problem. Find a landlord-tenant or real estate lawyer practicing in the jurisdiction of the rental, and retain them to review the matter. It will be much cheaper than the $6,070 judgment or the damage that will do to your credit.
