Ocala, FL asked in Landlord - Tenant for Florida

Q: Is it legal for our landlord to raise our rent during this pandemic? Said he can kick us out if we don’t pay!

He raised our rent after all this started and then said we have to pay it or he can kick us out! How is that legal?! How are we suppose to pay if we can’t even work?

A: Do you have a lease? Is it monthly, yearly? Need more information to answer properly. If for example, you are on month 6 of a year lease, then the answer would be no, he cannot arbitrarily raise the rent. But, my guess is that is not the scenario.

A: Unless you have a written lease your landlord can do whatever they want.
