Q: Question about I 864 Joint sponsor married filed jointly

I am a joint sponsor filling out I-864 for a close friend. I am married and file my taxes jointly with my wife. My individual income is enough to sponsor so I don’t want to include my wives income. But since our tax return are filed jointly, what should I put for Part 6 Question 20 about my Current Annual Household income ? Also what should I put for questions 24a 24b and 24c about my Total income for each tax year ? Should I put only my income or should I put the total income on my tax returns filed jointly with my wife ?

A: Your question refers to specific items on an immigration form. If you are filing Married Filing Jointly, you must put accurate numbers on the form. I would consult an immigration attorney. I hope this helps and Good luck. Zaher Fallahi, Esq, CPA (CA &D.C.).
