Cherry Hill, NJ asked in Copyright and Patents (Intellectual Property) for New Jersey

Q: Where can I get a patent attorney?

I have students working on my product for their capstone project. It does not have copywriters yet. Do I need an attorney? Where can I find an affordable one in Cherry Hill NJ?

A: It is not clear from what you write whether you have need of a patent or a copyright attorney. In either case, having someone else work on the project could mean they end up with the IP rights. So before you go further, do find an IP attorney who can assess what has been done and what needs to be done. You can check your local bar association to find a qualified attorney or Justia's list of attorneys. Good luck.

With regards to if you need a patent attorney or not: it really depends on your business model. A patent is simply a business tool, just like a production line, or a computer system, or a delivery truck. Are you going to be able to utilize the patent?

The best way of finding a patent attorney (besides on Justia) is to talk to your business attorney that your company typically uses. Attorneys are excellent at networking, and they like to recommend other attorneys to their clients. And they also have a vested interest to recommend you the appropriate attorney.
