Asked in DUI / DWI for Alabama

Q: Can I use youthful offender in the state of Alabama if the crime was committed while I was 21?

I had just arrived at my home. Parked my car, locked it and had gotten out of the vehicle when an officer proceeded to come onto my property and forced me to take a breathalyzer. This is my first offense for a misdemeanor DUI.

A: If you are 21 you are considered an Adult and not eligible for Youthful Offender. However you are eligible for the PreTrial Intervention Program (PTIP) which allows first time offenders to enter the program and once finished your case will be dismissed. You can speak to an attorney in your county and they should provide you with the details.
