Blacklick, OH asked in Family Law for Ohio

Q: When my 16 yr old daughter doesn’t like how I am parenting her, she decides to leave and go to her dads.

How can I put a stop to my daughter leaving home without permission or just not coming home because she is upset with me? When I parent in a way she dislikes, she drives to her dads house. We have shared parenting, but these are not his days and with him continuing to allow that, it undermines any authority I would hope to have as her mother. Legally what can I do in Ohio to put a stop to it?

A: Nobody has the answers on dealing with unruly and disobedient teens. Advise the father that he must comply with the court ordered parenting, and that and your daughter and letting her stay with him when she feels like it, is not doing her any favors. If he does not cooperate in the shared parenting of your daughter according to the court order, you can file a motion with the court asking to have him ordered to comply or be held in contempt.
