Glendale Heights, IL asked in Consumer Law and Tax Law for Illinois

Q: Everytime i file my taxes, I always have had a problem with the irs, telling me i need an Identity theft number.

Everytime i get in contact with the irs they cannot help me. Over the phone they tell me to go online and verify my identity online. When i go online its asking me for a credit account, mortgage account, auto loan account, Student loan account and which i have neither. I have a secured CC but that does not work. So they cant verify me online. I try to make an appointment in person and there is no where i can make an appointment. I went to the local office and they keep telling me i have to do it online. Im out of options here and nobody is able to help me. So im asking for a lawyers advice, if any lawyer knows any other options, what can i do? For 2 years i have filed my taxes but im not able to receive my money because i have not been able to get someone to help me.

A: Call your local taxpayer advocate. Here is a link to look up the number for your local office. https://taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/contact-us
