Austin, TX asked in Personal Injury for Texas

Q: My lawyer just advised me that my Underinsured coverage insurer has agreed to pay out the full policy before

The liability insurer has even agreed to a settlement. She wants me to sign the release now. I told her I don’t want to sign anything until everything is finalized with all insurers and I see a breakdown of where the money is going. She said ok. Am I doing the right thing here? I mean, normally in a car accident case that gets settled don’t lawyers provide a breakdown to their clients. I don’t want to sign anything because what’s to stop my lawyer from leaving me with as little money as possible and not negotiate with the medical providers to lower my bills. I have 55k in medical bills and the UiM coverage is 30k and the liability is 50k and I also have another UiM that is in play for another 30. As of now, one of the UiM insurers has agreed to pay out the full policy which surprised me because I thought I would have to get the liability insurer to pay out first. I am in Texas

A: A Texas attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for two weeks. As a general matter, it would be good to see the breakdown of figures on any case. The questions regarding the liens would be best addressed by your attorney. This appears to be a complicated case, and that's without looking closely at the liens. Good luck
