Winter Park, FL asked in Child Support and Family Law for Florida

Q: How do I terminate child support in FL

Both my ex and I live in Florida now and both of the kids have been living on their own for a year and are not enrolled in school. 19 and 22. My ex does not want to terminate for fear that he will have to back pay the money he has received. Florida Child support is stating that he has to request the termination although he is unwilling to do that. I cannot continue to pay him and help my sons financially. Original P.R order does not have an end date. I have requested a modification to remove the eldest and the account is frozen and an amount of $5600 that I have paid is being withheld from him pending the court outcome. Meanwhile I am still being garnished for money my sons are not getting while having to still help them when needed.

A: You have the right on your own to file a Motion to Terminate the child support. You do not need the other parent's agreement.
