A: If yo ualready have the trust, all you have to do is make a new deed and record it with the County Clerk. The clerk will charge you about $25 if it is your residence and $100 if it is not. If you want the deed written for you then it is probably about $250.

If you need the trust written too then you will spend about $2,000 or more, depending on various factors.

A: It depends on where the property is located. Each county charges a recording fee, which can be anywhere from $25 - $150 and depends on two things: (1) the number of pages being recorded; and (2) if the property is the primary residence of the property owner. This recording fee has to be paid regardless of whether a lawyer or anyone else prepares the paperwork.

Lawyers rates vary, but many charge on an hourly rate. You can simply ask the lawyer for the hourly rate that will be charged. There are either two or three documents that need to be prepared, depending on whether the property is the owner's primary residence. I prepare deeds and related documentation on a flat fee basis (not hourly), which means I charge a set fee to prepare paperwork for property located in California, so my clients know up front how much it will cost. Different lawyers charge different amounts, but the cost should be around $250 - $300. I hope this helps!
