Cleveland, OH asked in Tax Law for Florida

Q: Are 501(c)(3) foundations required to make public their officers, board members, etc. and the names of the recipients

I donate monthly to my daughter's foundation, created by her before her death from ALS, to directly donate funds to other ALS victims to help with extraordinary expenses not covered by insurance. Her husband is the treasurer, who abused her physically, emotionally and mentally when she was paralyzed and unable to speak. Few know of this and he presents a polished, caring persona to all. I do not trust him to carry out her wishes to help others suffering as she did. I want to have the above-mentioned information to quiet my suspicions and insure her wishes are being followed.

A: A Florida non-profit corporation is not required to report names of donation recipients at at sunbiz.org. If it is a 501(c)(3) organization, it may be required to report that information to the IRS, but the tax return is not public information.
