Q: What do I do if my landlord will not contact me back about a burst pipe in home? Am I responsible?
I live in Texas and I am currently back home in another state taking care of some things. I get notified by a prior renter of the house that the landlord had contacted her and told her that a pipe burst in the house and caused some flooding. I got ahold of the landlord and he said that it was due to the cold and that it is still flooded a bit, and that he did shut the water off. When I tried calling him he did not answer and when I text him to ask him what's going on. He will not reply. I told him I will be back In a week. I just need to know if I am responsible for repairs due to me not being there when it happened. I really dont know what the next steps will be. He did not let me know of it damaged anything. So I will have to wait and see until I get back.
A: Check your lease, but it's probably not your responsibility to pay for the repairs. Presumably the pipe burst due to the freeze. You will probably be responsible for any damage to your belongings and the landlord will need to pay the the repairs to the property.
