Asked in Libel & Slander for Pennsylvania

Q: Is someone calling your work lying about you to get you fired considered harassment?

My friends neighbors are calling my friends work trying to get her fired and the local police department told her there is nothing she can do. The neighbors are constantly starting fights with her and she feels unsafe at her home with her and her daughter. Is she supposed to just wait till it escalates to where one of her neighbors gets violent before she can get any help?

A: Unfortunately the law isn't good about this. If it's motivated by race or other bias, then contact one of the legal groups that deals with those issues to see what her options are. If it's just people being idiots , depending on the behaviors she can go for a protective order but that can take time and money.
