Dallas, TX asked in Family Law for Texas

Q: This is regarding family law. Final order was drawn up by the opposing attorney. I don’t agree do I have to sign it?

We had made some agreements before court but then we got hit with 2 attorneys hitting us up in court and we represented ourselves. Judge made rulings on behalf of things brought up that we had already agreed on but anyways court didn’t go in our favor due to no representation.. It was a bad case with a bitter scorned ex, trying everything to keep the kids away and for me just to pay everything and follow her rules accordingly even in my home.

Sadly now we have the new final order and it is just ridiculous. Repeats things redundantly, things that the judge didn’t say we are accused of. It’s about 46 pages of everything in favor for the ex.. We can’t sign this we refuse it’s not right. What are our options please. I remember that attorney saying something could happen if we didn’t sign in 10 days? I don’t recall what that was about though.. Please any advise. We have been taken highly advantage of by my ex and have been made out to be a bad person due to my ptsd being a Purple Heart ve

A: If the proposed order does not actually reflect the court's rulings or your agreements, you are free to prepare and submit your own order. It's not unusual for final divorce or custody decrees to be very long, because they have to include all the terms of visitation and child support, as well as the property division.

If you do nothing, the order will be submitted to the court for signature, and will likely be signed as is.
