Oakland, CA asked in Immigration Law for California

Q: Does a latent TB (with a clear X-ray) reported in I-693 a concern to approve I-485 ?

I have finished my medical examination as part of the USCIS requirement.

In my medical test, I was found positive for Tuberculosis (TB) in the blood test. However in the follow-up X-ray examination, It was clean. I was found to have only 'latent TB' infection and not 'infective active TB'. In my report, the doctor has mentioned exact details as above and told me that it should not be a problem with USCIS as it is a 'latent TB' that most of the people have.

Could you please advise me if it is ok to send/or take to interview a report saying 'latent TB' infection or after taking antibiotic treatment (which is treatment route for latent TB infection), I should again repeat medical examination to get another report?

My question is do you see cases like mine being usual with no problems during GC interview/approval or should I repeat the test.

A: Positive TB tests happen frequently but if your doctor signed the I-693 form and assured you that there should not be a problem then there very likely will not be. But if you have the money and want peace of mind then doing another test after treatment can't hurt. Here is more information about TB and USCIS: https://www.uscis.gov/archive/questions-and-answers-2009-update-to-the-tuberculosis-screening-required-for-adjustment-of-status

Best wishes!
