Cantonment, FL asked in Landlord - Tenant for Florida

Q: Tenant recvd text from pm that yr lease would not be renewed, after tenant recvd text, a week earlier stating it would?

Can a pm legally do this? Agree to renew a yr lease, then retract it?

A: Maybe, it depends on whether the tenant relied on the first text to his detriment.

A: Yes. Tenants and/or landlords or property managers working for a landlord can say or text anything about lease renewal without binding themselves; the only thing that is binding is the actual written lease itself.

In this case it appears that the PM might not have had the owner's permission to tell you the expiring lease would be renewed--and thus had to correct their error after the owner found out and told them not to renew the lease.
