Alachua, FL asked in Child Support for Florida

Q: How will child support be affected if I allow 1 one 2 children to have primary residency with the other parent?

I've had Primary Residency of both my children for years. One of them is having behavioral issues, we tried counseling but nothing is helping. I have other children to worry about in the home from my current marriage and her actions are affecting the others in the home. She is verbally abusive and makes constant threats to others in the home. She has shown documented issues with rules and authority since her early years in elementary school (currently in virtual middle school). There aren't any issues like this with the other children in the home. Do you recommend any other options?

Said child is requesting to live with the other parent. I currently receive child support in the amount of $355 per month. The other parent lives in MO and is unemployed. How will allowing this child to live in MO with my co-parent affect child support I currently receive? Will I be it be divided in half or will I owe support?

A: If it is a Florida child support order, it is based on each parent's income as well as the overnights that the children spend with each parent. It is not as simple as dividing the current child support in half. You should seek a consultation with a local family lawyer who can do the calculations for you and explain what they mean.
