Q: I am a Permanent Resident, if i apply for unemployment will my Sponsor be affected in any way (have to pay anything,ect.

& will it affect me wanting to sponsor my mom when i become a citizen?

A: At this time Unemployment benefits are not considered public charge as they are considered to be earned benefits through the person’s employment so your sponsor will not have to repay those to the government. Hopefully this rule will not change before you apply to sponsor your mom. Best wishes!
