Tulsa, OK asked in Health Care Law and Medical Malpractice for Oklahoma

Q: I went to the hospital about to weeks ago and I feel I was discriminated against and misdiagnosed and I did not receive

The nurse came in to get my insurance info and when I told her I didn't have any she mad the other nurses and doctor immediately started being rude they told me all I have is a spranged ankle mad put ice on it. Then the lady that took my info regarding the insurance came in with a paper and said my bill is $375.00 and I have to put something on my bill before I leave. And I told her I didn't have anything could I come back and pay something on my bill she told me no you have to pay something before you leave out of this room. So I sat at the hospital for almost 2 hours until someone came and put $5 bucks on the bill for me. Then I made a follow up appointment with my primary doctor because my foot still was feeling the same as when I went to the hospital. My doctor got x-rays and sent them to a foot specialist the same day and they said my foot is broke in two places and they have to set me up for surgery without this surgery my foot could be messed up and in pain forever.

A: An Oklahoma attorney could advise best, but your post remains open for four weeks and it sounds like you are in serious need of medical care. I can't say anything about the element of discrimination, based on your description - that's usually something that involves a protected legal class - race, religion, national origin, etc. For starters, see if the hospital has a social services department. If they do, contact them to discuss options available to you in terms of public health coverage (fed, state - depending on your financial need and age). If that is not an option, then you could reach out to public assistance/social services agencies in the Tulsa area to see if they could identify options to help you financially with the impending surgery. Good luck, I hope you are able to arrange the medical care you need.
