A: The SSA Disability determination will be based on your ability to show up and do full time work. Your actual income has little to do with the equation. Sometimes there are exceptions based on you getting paid more than you are able to earn due to a generous employer that is aware of your disability. You can talk to an attorney for free about your details to see if an exception applies to you. Keep in mind if you are mentally and physically able to do full time work, you could be a full time volunteer earning nothing and they still would still refuse to pay you disability benefits. If somehow you won a claim, but they later determined that you were able to work, they often go back as far as 3 years and demand repayment of the benefits.
