A: I believe this is a negotiation issue, not a legal one. I am not aware of any law that says that a car dealership can't require that. It is a free market, it is their dealership, they can generally state that they "require" you to buy a whole lot of things in order to buy a car from them. They can require you to do ten jumping jacks to buy a car if they really want to run their business like that. What I would suggest is that there is no legal requirement that you must purchase an extended warranty to purchase a car in general, so they are probably just being pushy in order to have you also purchase an extended warranty. Car dealerships are notorious about trying to get you to purchase add-ons. If you don't like the deal you are getting from a dealership, just walk away and tell them the deal isn't for you under those terms. Odds are they come running after you. You will never win a negotiation that you're not willing to walk away from.
