Q: I have court Thursday on a petty larceny charge I need legal advice

I had no knowledge of the fact that my friend and I did not have permission to be on his uncle's land. My friend put some things in my truck and I helped him load an item. But I didn't know that we weren't supposed to be on the land and was didn't know that the things he and I put in my truck belonged to his uncle. This is my first charge of this nature. What are the chances of me having to do jail time

A: It really depends on a few things; however, if this if your first charge, then there is a greater likelihood of no jail time. That being said, it sounds like you may have a viable defense, particularly depending on what the other person told officers and what the investigation revealed. Either way, it is in your best interest to consult with an experienced criminal defense lawyer to see what can be done to either avoid jail time or, more importantly, make sure that this does not go on your record.
